Everyone who makes the Burn work is a volunteer, and every volunteer’s participation is their gift to the community.
Dragon Burn has NO paid staff. Even the most involved planners, who spend months creating the Burn, pay for their own tickets.
Do you like giving gifts? Do you support a more de-commodified culture? Do you want to meet committed doers and thinkers like yourself? Then join a Dragon Burn team today!
1. Department of Public Works (DPW)

DPW creates the infrastructure which makes the Burn work. We set up public buildings and electricity, build signs and fences, and take care of anything that needs construction, deconstruction, or fixing. DPW also welcomes newcomers at the gate, guiding everyone into the Burn experience.
DPW workers are often first to arrive and last to leave. We work hard and play hard.
If you like:
- Building or fixing things
- Welcoming people
- Arriving early to spend time with other dedicated people like yourself…
- Having fun before AND after…
Then join DPW!

2. Center Camp (CC)

CC is the nerve center of the burn. Here you can find information, directions, medical care, lost and found, and sacred Burner Knowledge.
Volunteers work in shifts to staff CC from 7:00 to 21:00.
CC also requests that, if you are a trained medical worker (such as a doctor, nurse, or paramedic), that you register with us in case a Burner requires medical assistance.
If you like:
- Meeting and chatting with people
- Helping people
- Educating people
- Chilling out in a cool tent with drinks and movies…

3. Rangers

Rangers help Burners burn brighter and more safely. As a Ranger, you will wander the Playa, but not as some weird police officer: rather as a helper, mediator, educator, and conversationalist.
Rangers work out of Center Camp. During your shift, you’ll stay sober, walk around with a radio, and help anyone who needs it. A lot of the time, you just chat people up, so it’s a great way to meet people and find interesting experiences all around the Playa.
If you like:
- Walking around and meeting people
- Helping people
- Resolving conflicts
- Wearing a cape, if you want…

4. Environment and Leave No Trace (LNT)

The Ministry of Environment is LNT in action. We help everyone ensure that, after everybody leaves, the site is as beautiful as when we found it … or even more beautiful!
Environment workers may do some work throughout the Burn, but are especially important on the last day, when everyone is cleaning up.
If you like:
- Caring for the natural world
- Meeting like-minded people
- Making sure that we are welcome on the site again next year…

5. Temple Build Team

The Temple is a quiet, sacred space at the heart of the burn—a place for reflection, release, and remembrance. Built by the community and open to all, it’s where we leave our love, our grief, our memories, and our messages.
The Temple will be built on the weekend before the burn (April 26th).
If you like:
- Building things
- Seeing the site early
- Giving a gift to the emotional well-being of everyone at the burn
